Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) is an autonomous government body constituted for the conduct of the recruitment process in several nationalized banks of India. Leading banks such as Punjab National Bank, Bank of Baroda, Bank of India, Bank of Maharashtra, Canara Bank, Central Bank of India, Indian Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, Punjab & Sind Bank, UCO Bank, and Union Bank of India participate in the IBPS banking recruitment process ever year and hire probationary officers and clerks in positions open with them.

This year too, IBPS has come out with the common recruitment process for hiring clerks in the participating banks. Clerks in banks play the role of the execution lifeline of the entire banking operations, ranging from cash dealing, public dealing, file dealing, instrument dealing, back-end operations handling, computer operations, transaction management, deposits & withdrawals, and branch-level operations assistance to assisting the officers and managers in making informed decisions, and more.

Salaries up to Rs 30,000

The online applications opened on 2nd September 2020 and can be filled and submitted till 23rd September 2020 EOD. The last date for making online fee payment is 23rd September 2020 EOD. The call letter for online prelims exam can be downloaded 18th November 2020 onwards, while the date of preliminary examination is 5th December 2020, 12th December 2020, and 13th December 2020. Its result will be out on 31st December 2020, subsequent to which mains exam takes place on 24th January 2021, followed by provisional allotment of selected candidates on 1st April 2021.

Candidates selected as clerks by IBPS earn in the range of Rs 25,000 – Rs 30,000 to begin with. More than 1,500 vacancies have been advertised this year by IBPS across the country. It is worth noting that the vacancies have been outlined in a state-wise and UT-wise manner, and selected candidates would be allotted a bank and place of posting basis the state / UT specified by them during the application stage.

Who can apply?

The candidate must be a citizen of India, a subject of Nepal / Bhutan, a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intent of permanently settling in India, or a person of Indian origin migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, listed East African countries or Vietnam with the intent of permanently settling in India. Except for Indian citizens, a certificate of eligibility must have been issued by the government of India for all other candidates.

Candidates must be 20-28 years old, i.e., they must not have been born earlier than 02 September 1992 and not later than 1st September 2000. Relaxations in upper age limit exist for reserved category candidates. Education-wise, the candidate must be a graduation degree-holder in any stream from a recognized university of India or equivalent. The final result of graduation should have been declared on or before 23rd September 2020.

Scheme of Examination

The online prelims exam will be of 1 hour and carry 1/4th negative marking. It will have 30 questions of English Language, 35 questions of Numerical Ability and 35 questions of Reasoning Ability, and all tests are separately timed. Candidates clearing prelims stage appear in the online mains exam, which will be of 160 minutes in duration and carry 1/4th negative marking. All the sections will be separately timed and there will be 50 questions of General / Financial Awareness, 40 questions of General English, 50 questions of Reasoning Ability & Computer Aptitude, and 50 questions of Quantitative Aptitude.

Candidates can take the tests in either English or Hindi. Candidates clearing the mains stage will be considered for provisional allotment subject to document verification and their overall merit determined by the total score as well as the section-wise scores secured in the mains stage. The prelims stage is, thus, only qualifying in nature.
